Practical Accounting

What is covered?

A review of the key principles of financial accounting, and the approaches taken in accounting for various types of asset, liability, income and expenditure.   The course is highly practical, looking at typical business transactions for real businesses, and giving participants the technical ability to understand and appraise financial information.

Who will benefit?

Participants who are relatively new to finance, and need to have a solid understand of how accounts are put together, including the “nitty-gritty” of accounting for various types of asset/liability and income/expenditure .   The course is highly practical and participants work through a series of examples showing them in detail how the transactions are accounted for in the companies’ books.

  • Basic principles of double entry bookkeeping
  • Accounting for tangible fixed assets
  • Accounting for intangible fixed assets
  • Accounting for current assets – receivables and inventory
  • Accounting for current assets – payables and provisions
  • Accounting for long term liabilities
  • Accounting for income and expenditure
  • Accounting for business combinations – acquisitions and mergers
